Will my child get enough attention in group care?

We treat each child as an individual. As we get to know your child's particular needs and temperament, we do everything possible to make sure that they get enough attention, care and encouragement throughout the day.

How do you handle discipline?

We believe that each child is unique with special qualities. Our environment and activities are set up to avoid discipline problems. We use discipline to help children internalize rules and to become self-directed. We understand child development and use a variety of techniques based on the child's age, temperament and individual needs. These include: 1) Praise for acceptable, helpful behavior; 2) Diversion, for infants and toddlers; 3) Talking about the unacceptable behavior; 4) Brief time outs. We have a routine which is predictable and strive to maintain a calm atmosphere.

What do I need to bring for my child?

Depending on the age of the child, we request some extra clothes, including long and short sleeve tops, a couple of pair of pants, and socks. We ask that you bring a jacket each day. Infants need two bottles. You may also bring any special items your child needs, like a "lovey" or special blanket. Food, formula and diapers are provided at no extra charge. You may bring food if your child has special dietary needs. You may also bring cloth diapers or a brand of disposable diapers that you prefer.

Do you potty train?

Yes, we do. When we all feel that the child is ready, willing and able, we incorporate potty training into our day.

What if my child is sick?

If your child becomes sick during the day, we will call you immediately. We ask that children stay home if they have a fever, diarrhea, vomiting or a very runny nose, or if they are too lethargic to participate in our daily schedule.

What is the day like? Do you have a schedule?

Our schedule is based on the ages of the children. Infants are on their own individual schedules. Older children have activities in the morning. A snack about 10 AM. Lunch about noon. Nap time is typically from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. We have different activities in the afternoon.

What kind of food do you serve?

We serve lots of fresh fruit and vegetables daily. Chicken, fish, turkey and cheese are our main proteins. Our children love to eat salad! We serve mostly whole grain foods. Sample menu items include macaroni and cheese, quesadillas, and spaghetti with ground turkey. We accommodate allergies and individual child preferences. Infants are served freshly-made baby food.

Do you take the children out?

Depending on the ages of the children and the number in care, we go out as much as we can. We take walks in the neighborhood, go to story time at the library and take bus trips to nearby parks, the aquarium and the zoo.
